THE IOWA RACING AND GAMING COMMISSION HAS VOTED TO DENY A NEW LICENSE FOR SIOUX CITY’S ARGOSY RIVERBOAT CASINO, AND SET THE DATE FOR THE CASINO TO SHUT DOWN.

I-R-G-C CHAIRMAN JEFF LAMBERTI READ THE DECISION, BASED ON A RULING BY AN ADMINISTRATIVE LAW JUDGE, AT THE COMMISSION’S MEETING THURSDAY MORNING IN COUNCIL BLUFFS:

OC….OPERATION OF LAW. :26

THE RULING ALSO CALLS FOR THE RIVERBOAT TO HALT OPERATIONS IN TWO AND A HALF MONTHS:

OC….JULY 1ST, 2014. :09

THE COMMISSION APPROVED THE MEASURE ON A 5-0 VOTE, WITH LAMBERTI SAYING THIS WAS THE COMMISSION’S FINAL DECISION ON THE ARGOSY.

ARGOSY ATTORNEY MARK WEINHARDT ASKED TO ADDRESS THE COMMISSION, BUT HIS REQUEST WAS DENIED.

WEINHARDT GOT HIS CHANCE ABOUT 20 MINUTES LATER, WHEN THE IRGC OPENED THE FLOOR TO PUBLIC COMMENTS ON ANY ISSUE:

OC…..REVIEW THIS MATTER. ;11

THE RIVERBOAT CURRENTLY DOESN’T HAVE A LICENSE SINCE IT’S SEPARATED FROM IT’S FORMER NONPROFIT LICENSE HOLDER, MISSOURI RIVER HISTORICAL DEVELOPMENT, WHO IS PARTNERED WITH THE NEW HARD ROCK CASINO.

THE HARD ROCK IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN THE WEST END OF DOWNTOWN SIOUX CITY AND EXPECTED TO OPEN IN MID-AUGUST.

THE I-R-G-C ANNOUNCED THEY WOULD HOLD A MEETING AT THE CASINO NEXT YEAR, ON JUNE 14TH & 15TH OF 2015.
