WATER FLOWS THROUGH THE SPILLWAY AT GAVINS POINT DAM INCREASED WEDNESDAY, BUT ACTUALLY NO MORE WATER THAN NORMAL IS ACTUALLY COMING THROUGH THE YANKTON DAM.

THAT’S BECAUSE OF MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR WORK TAKING PLACE AT THE GAVINS POINT DAM POWER PLANT.

RELEASES, WHICH NORMALLY RUN THROUGH THE POWERHOUSE, HAVE BEEN DIVERTED TO THE SPILLWAY.

OFFICIALS AT THE DAM SAY THE SPILLWAY WATER RELEASES WILL CONTINUE THROUGH MID-SUMMER TO ALLOW CONTRACTORS TO REPLACE EQUIPMENT IN THE POWERPLANT.

BOATING RESTRICTIONS WILL BE IN PLACE ON THE MISSOURI RIVER BELOW GAVINS POINT DAM DURING THE TIME WATER IS RELEASED THROUGH THE SPILLWAY.

THE RESTRICTED AREA FOR BOATS IS MARKED BY SIGNS LOCATED ON THE NORTH AND SOUTH BANK OF THE MISSOURI RIVER APPROXIMATELY 500 YARDS BELOW THE SPILLWAY.

DURING SPILLWAY RELEASES, BOATERS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO GO UPSTREAM OF THESE SIGNS.
