A 14-year-old boy accused in the shooting death of his stepbrother in Kingsley may be tried in district court instead of juvenile court.

The boy is charged as a juvenile with involuntary manslaughter and willful injury in the death of 17-year-old Kyle Badgerow on Dec. 9.

The Plymouth County attorney’s office has filed a motion to waive jurisdiction for the prosecution of the boy as a youthful offender.

If a judge approves the motion, he would be tried in district court. A hearing is Jan. 20.

Trying a juvenile as a youthful offender would make him eligible for rehabilitation or punishment when he becomes an adult.
