SIOUX CITY—AS THE MISSOURI RIVER LEVEL CONTINUES TO RISE, THE CITY’S TRIBUTARIES ARE SEEING AN INCREASE IN SURFACE ELEVATION.

THIS ELEVATION CAN RISE TO A LEVEL WHERE IT COULD BACK FLOW INTO THE STORM SEWER SYSTEM.

WHILE THE CITY DOES NOT EXPECT ANY RIVER WATER TO COME OUT OF THE INLETS OR MANHOLES, CLOSING THESE GATES WILL PREVENT RIVER WATER FROM BACKING INTO THE SYSTEM.

BOTH THE BIG SIOUX AND FLOYD RIVER HAVE FLOOD GATES THAT CAN BE CLOSED TO CONTAIN WATER IN THEIR RESPECTIVE CHANNELS.

STAFF HAS IDENTIFIED GATES TO BE CLOSED ON BOTH TRIBUTARIES AND ADDITIONAL GATES WILL BE CLOSED AS THE RIVER RISES.

CURRENTLY GATES 1, 2 AND 3 OF THE 5 GATES ON THE BIG SIOUX ARE CLOSED.

THE FLAP GATES ON THE FLOYD RIVER SYSTEM ARE PERFORMING AS DESIGNED AND NO HARD CLOSURES OF THE FLOOD CONTROL GATES ARE REQUIRED AT THIS TIME.
